Watchdog sees Google filters info from illegal content at 82% at best

MOSCOW, Dec 3 (PRIME) -- Google, repeatedly fined by the Russian communications service for ignoring the law on screening of search results from websites with illegal information, has deleted 82% of such content, the authority’s Deputy Director Vadim Subbotin told PRIME on Tuesday.

“As the maximum, we’ve registered filtration at 82%,” Subbotin said.

The communications service’s Director Alexander Zharov said in November that Google improved screening of banned information to 80%. The service hopes the figure would rise to 100% or the company will face fines.

The law obliging search engines to get connected to the single register of banned information and screen search results came in force on October 1, 2018. Google, which has not joined the list, was earlier fined with 500,000 rubles and 700,000 rubles.
